Donating Dresses & Accessories

promdress2By donating evening gowns, you will be one of many people responsible for making one girls prom dreams come true.  We know you have a big heart but there are a few things that we have to advise you of.  When donating dresses, you must adhere to the following guidelines.

  1. Dresses MUST be from 2004 to present.
  2. Dresses MUST be dry-cleaned and on hangers.
  3. Dresses MUST be prom dresses, formal gowns, or fancy party dresses.
  4. Accessories MUST be stylish, clean, and in excellent condition.
  5. Shoes must be new or very gently used.

We cannot accept:

  • garments that are out of style (purchased before 2002)
  • garments that have not been dry-cleaned
  • make-up
  • casual or semi-formal clothing
  • wedding dresses
  • tuxedos or men’s clothes

*NOTE* We are in the process of scheduling drop off locations and days.  If you have a dress you would like to donate call Stephanie Danforth at (313) 492-1991 and we can arrange a time and place to pick it up.

How To Help

promdress1There are a number ways that you and your community can make the Pretty Girl Prom Project a success.  No form of kindness will be turned away.  Below are some suggestions on how you can assist in making these Pretty Girl’s Dreams Come true.  If the below volunteer methods are not suitable for you and you have something more specialized in mind, don’t hesitate to call us.

DRESS DROP OFF LOCATIONS

Allow women and girls that are interested in donating a dress to the Pretty Girl Prom Project to drop dresses off at your place of business.

DRESS DISTRIBUTION

• Greeters (schools, hospitality and media)

• Dressing Room Attendants

• Check-In

• Crowd Control

• Dress Monitoring (maintain dress racks)

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

• High School Correspondence (faxing flyers, following up with counselors).

• Community Partners Outreach( Correspondence & Follow-up to specific in-kind requests)

• Email duties- sending out mass email announcing dates and scheduling of this year’s event to community at large.

Rules & Guidelines for Students & Parents

prom dressesRules and Guidelines for Students and Parents:

All girls participating in the Pretty Girl Prom Project must receive an invitation to attend our annual shop days. 

You must be a Junior or Senior to shop during at the designated shop locations, which are announced each year in February.

All girls participating must be nominated by an adult (parent, guardian, teacher, etc.) of peer (friend, sibling, etc.).

All girls invited to participate in the Pretty Girl Project are encouraged to bring a parent, guardian or best friend.

If no one is available to come with you, don’t worry.  There will be volunteers available to give you styling suggestions. 

All participants are entitled to one dress and coordinating accessories.
